Our youth participate in ongoing and seasonal activities. Seasonal activities include the Halloween Ghost Tour and the Annual Christmas pageant.
Fisher Kids – Grades 3 to 6 October-June
Fisher Kids meets the first Monday of the month from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to play games, do projects, and build community. We end our time together with a simple supper.
Rev. Melissa, Rev. Audrey, and Ms Martha meet with the teens the first, second, and third Fridays of the month, 5 to 6:30 p.m. We have dinner, a check-in, and activity at each meeting. Teens come as regularly as their schedules permit. An annual mission trip is planned for the early summer. Funds are raised by the teens to cover as much of this expense as possible.
Acolytes - 6th Grade and Older
Acolytes assist the clergy during the 8:15 and 10:15 a.m. services. Younger acolytes serve as torch bearers and older ones as crucifers. Training is provided. Speak to Martha Boughner or the clergy if you are interested in training.
Lectors – Middle School and Older
We invite all youth who would like to read Scripture lessons in church to train for this ministry. Please speak to the clergy.
Chalice Bearers—11th grade and older
Confirmed teens can be prepared to serve the chalice at services. Speak to the clergy to learn more.
Diocesan Youth programs
Throughout the year there are a variety of great programs for our youth. Opportunities will be listed on the main bulletin board and in The Net (the weekly newsletter of St. James’). See also the diocesan web site for information on programs and application forms (http://youth.dioceseofnewark.org/)
