Rev. Melissa became a priest in 2003 after a long career in Nursing Administration that included positions at NYU, Lenox Hill, and Newark Beth Israel. A graduate of NYU and Union Theological Seminary, she served as a seminarian in 2001 and 2002 at St James under The Rev. Orion Davis, and was ordained at St. Stephen’s, Millburn.
Over the years her ministries have included the Assistant Rector at All Saints Hoboken and the Assistant Rector at Church of the Redeemer in Morristown. Upon the retirement of Redeemer’s long-time priest, Melissa became the Interim Rector there.
At the conclusion of that call, Melissa’s last cure was three years as Assistant Rector at Saint Peter’s Church in Morristown.
The focus of her ministries has been pastoral care, team and community building, stewardship and congregational growth, social outreach ministries, as well as youth and children’s ministry. Melissa has successfully pursued grants for the various churches she has served, in order to create new outreach opportunities for those communities.
This past summer Melissa began a sabbatical period of prayer and reflection, and took time to pursue her creative self as a poet and artist.
The community of St James is especially pleased to welcome her back into their fold and is looking forward to an exciting period of transition towards the calling of its new permanent pastor.
